Celluloid Bachelor #45: Bear Hands "What A Drag"

Somewhere down the line, I developed a thing for EPs. I don't know why, don't even know when, but it just happened. Anymore, I almost prefer it when I hear a band is releasing one, as opposed to a full-length. (Weirdly, though, I find the notion of releasing singles to be stupid. Whatever.)

Early in 2009, I got a hold of a killer little EP by a Brooklyn-based band called Bear Hands, and have been smitten ever since. I even stuck around a late night Grog show to hear them play one night, even though I had an early morning radio interview scheduled for the next morning. (For those of you who know me, I deeply value my sleep, so this was no small sacrifice.)

However, because I am as much of a hypocrite as I am smitten with the band, I'm including the video for the band's forthcoming 7" single, "What A Drag." I love the video, with the strange trio of exhausted gals in period dress chasing a member of the band who first finds rescue on the back of a tractor-pulled wagon and then, impossibly, in an underground bachelor lair, and all the other artful flairs it possesses.

If you like it too, you can download the tracks for free via the band's website here, but only for about another month. All you vinyl collectors out there can get the real deal, which is being released February 16th via Cantora Records, here.
