C'mon - you know you wanna see some art. And Warhol works for everybody!
Text from the original press release below ...
Uncle Sam. Superman. Mickey Mouse. These pop culture icons share more in common than fame—they became muses and their images become subjects to another American icon: Andy Warhol.
The Cleveland Institute of Art is proud to announce a rare opportunity to view a private collection of prints created by the famed Andy Warhol this summer in Cleveland. From June 5 through August 16 in The Reinberger Galleries, CIA presents “Andy Warhol Prints: 1974 – 1986, Works from the Cochran Collection.”
The Cochran Collection, a group of privately owned Warhol prints, is on special loan to CIA from owners Wesley R. and Missy Cochran. Andy Warhol (1928-1987) is one of the most important and influential artists of the 20th century. This diverse collection of his works ranges from rare pieces to well-known and beloved works. This is the first time this collection has been seen in Ohio.
The thirty-six iconic prints included in the collection were created from 1974 to 1986, the year before Warhol’s death. The collection includes Warhol’s ‘Myth Series’, with portraits of the Wicked Witch, Dracula and Santa Claus; and ‘Cowboys and Indians’, with portraits of General Custer, Teddy Roosevelt, Annie Oakley, John Wayne, and romanticized images of American Indians including Indian Head Nickel and Kachina Dolls. The eclectic exuberance of Warhol’s art is on full display in this broad collection.
The Reinberger Galleries are open for “Andy Warhol Prints: 1974 - 1986” on Wednesday and Thursday from 10 am – 5 pm, Friday from 10 am – 9 pm, Saturday from 10 am – 5 pm and Sunday from noon – 5 pm. The Galleries are closed on Monday and Tuesday. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
