Pittsburgh Tips

Hello there everybody,

Looks like I have a quick trip down to Pittsburgh planned in about 2-3 weeks. I've never spent much time there, so if anyone has any must-do tips for the city that gave us Iron City Light, let me know.

Please.

Thanks!

To visit: The Andy Warhol Museum (http://www.warhol.org/) and to stroll: Carson Street on the South Side (http://www.southsidepgh.com/index_new.htm).

Thanks Stephanie. From reading your blog these past few weeks, I think our cultural tastes are pretty similar (though you are way more design savvy than I). So, given that, are you familiar with the bar named Brillobox (or something like it)? It seems pretty cool, sort of like if you put Asterisk Gallery and the Duck Island Club in one place. I was thinking about just finding a hotel in the Lawrenceville neighborhood and oohing and ahhing at the whole design collective thing going on there.

There are no hotels in Lawrenceville, but you can stay at the Hampton Inn in the Strip District, the foodie's paradise, which isn't far from Lawrenceville at all. The hotel is across from the regional history center, which is worth a visit.

There's plenty of restaurant goodness, an active nightlife...

I'd also go to the Carnegie Museum in Oakland and Tessaro's in Bloomfield, home of the world's best hamburger and, also in Bloomfield (kind of a Murray Hill type neighborhood), the Church Brew Works.

I have not been to Brillobox, although I have heard the YouTube happy hour is a good time. If you go, be sure to report back!
