At the end of next week, the folks here at CB enterprises will be heading down to the nation's capital for a week or so of work. I'm excited about the trip, as the work will be stimulating and there are some awesome cultural and political events on the schedule, with more in the works.
I'm not 100% happy about this trip though, mostly because it causes me to miss what I feel might be the most worthy benefit event of the year, the 5th Annual Art for Animals auction, which is put on by the Friends of the Cleveland Kennel.
The Cleveland Kennel does wonderful things, and as a supreme dog person I am so so so happy institutions like this (and especially the folks who give their time and resources to such institutions) exist.
The benefit event itself is also cool, and unlike some other fundraisers, affordable for just about everyone. Held at the Galleria at Erieview on East 9th from 6-10 PM on Friday, May 22nd, tickets are ONLY $15 (which gets you food and beverages from Porcelli's Bistro) and the opportunity to bid in a live auction for one of twenty ceramic pieces created by local artists. The Cleveland Kennel folks did a good job soliciting artists, too - some of the folks putting pieces in are the finest in town, including some of my favorites like Dana Depew, Scott Pickering, John G., and George Kocar. If buying art isn't your thing, fear not, for there will be a good DJ and the opportunity to win raffle prizes from dozens of local businesses.
Plus, all you single guys and gals out there, think about it this way, for $15 you can do a good deed AND meet the kinds of girls/guys that care enough about animals to show up and maybe the kinds with taste/wallets that allow them to appreciate art. Can't really go wrong there.
Anyway, check out the event poster below, designed by the incomparable John G. (This dude is really on his game right now!)
