West Side Friday

Hello folks.

I find myself giving a lot of love to the east side on this blog, perhaps because that is where I live and where most of the stuff I dig is located. However, I will be making an appearance on the west side this weekend and so should you. Friday night is a great two-fer evening that you could easily turn into a full-on spectacle with drinks and dinner and such added to the mix.

First, the Tremont Art Walk's monthly happening is, well, happening, which means a quick early venture to Doubting Thomas before the heroin addicts totally lose their shit and a leisurely visit to Asterisk Gallery. The new exhibit at Asterisk is a group show featuring works by some names you might remember, including Eva Kwong, J. Mutt, Joyce Porcelli, Andrew Newbold, and Anderson Turner.

After that, a good local live music night is scheduled for the Happy Dog, one of the few places on the near west side I regret living so far away from now, along with Momocho, the West Side Market, and the Velvet Tango Room. At 9, JJ Magazine will play an opening set, paving the way for Mystery of Two. You cannot ask for a finer local show, unless it was Unsparing Sea opening for Trouble Books, or the Hot Rails opening for Afternoon Naps. Still, this one is in the top 3, which is saying something. And the Happy Dog is a great place to watch a live set.
