Figures

It figures, just as I'm getting ready to move away from Ohio City - literally the day before I start the move - I discover this charming little indie ice cream place near Bridge and 44th (give or take a couple blocks). Cheap, old school soft-serve style. There was even a little crowd of neighbors standing around, parents talking while the kids enjoyed their dipped cones.

Oh, that is tragic. We've gone on many pleasant evening walks down there. Oddly, I can't think of anything like that in Cleveland Heights, or maybe even on the east side. Are neighborhood soft serve places just a west side thing? Can't be. There's that gelato place at Cedar Fairmount you could go to; I think they have pizza now too. There used to be a Hershey's ice cream shop at Cedar Fairmount but I guess that wasn't "upscale" enough.

But in the Heights you will have GELATO :)

ps - My absolute favorite flavor being Stracciatella

I gotta say I'd prefer gelato over soft serve, though I did like the neighborliness of the Ohio City stand. Then again, it was also broad daylight so there wasn't as much as usual to fear.

Christine - my ex told me about some cheap ice cream place that used to be in the Heights but closed down. Maybe she was talking about the Hershey's place. I don't think so, as she was a bit of a anti-corporate freak, but then again, she wasn't ever very consistent on her opinions so who knows.

My main observation about the Heights from a not-yet-residential perspective is that you don't have to look as hard for the stuff you want to do as the West Side, but having to look hard sometimes makes the treasure more valuable.

That's a great post, Emily. For the record, I had "Krunch" TM put on my cone, the first time in probably 20 years to do so. It was glorious.

There IS soft-serve up at Coventry, but I do like that stand on 44th you're talking about, having been introduced to it by "my kids."
